Only one day lost to bad weather so far, and that means plenty of action on the softball diamond. However, not much action in the YourSportsEdge.Com 2nd Region Softball “Super 7” this week. One position switch between 6th District teams is the only movement for the week. Although, the top four appear to be creating just a little separation between the rest of the region.
Christian County (6-0) – The Lady Colonels are bashing the ball out of the park, and scoring plenty of runs. They have outscored opponents 73-8 in the first six games, including wins over Caldwell County and Marshall County. We will find out much more about this team this weekend as they play Central Hardin, Male, Butler, and Floyd Central.
Madisonville (3-0) – The Lady Maroons survived a one run test against 7th District rival Caldwell County. They get ready to head to one of the region’s premiere early spring tournaments next weekend, as they play in the Bob Jones Invitational in Huntsville. Should give us a better idea of just how good this team can be.
Henderson County (8-0) – The struggles of last season are now a distant memory for the Lady Colonels from the north. So far this season, they have routed opponents by a combined score of 100-12, and 7 of those runs were scored in the opener by Caldwell County. Mark April 1th on your calendar, as that will be the first matchup of the season between Henderson County and Webster County.
Webster County (6-1) – One thing you can say about the Webster County Lady Trojans. When they pitch Karlie Keeney they are a handful for everybody else in the region. When they don’t, they can be beaten, as evidenced in their 2-1 loss to Hopkins Central, a game in which Keeney did not get the start. The Lady Trojans have only given up four runs in their first seven games.
Caldwell County (1-4) – While they are only 1-4 at this point, note this, all four losses are to the four teams about them in this week’s Super 7: Christian County, Madisonville, Henderson County, and Webster County. Franklin did not pitch against Christian County, and the games against Madisonville and Henderson came down to the wire.
Trigg County (3-4) – The Lady Wildcats keep the #6 spot this week, due to their shutout win over the Lady Lyons. The beatdown at the hand of the Crittenden County Lady Rockets is a bit concerning, and almost put the Lady Rockets into the Super 7. Big tests coming up against Christian County and Henderson County.
Lyon County (3-5) – The Lady Lyons put a beatdown on the Crittenden County Lady Rockets, who easily handled the Trigg County Lady Wildcats, who in turn shut out the Lady Lyons. The top of the 5th District appears very competitive. Which team will step up and take control is now the question in that district.
