Maroons Get the Jump on Caldwell County in 8-3 Win

Madisonville jumped out to an early lead over Caldwell County and completed the regular season sweep of the Tigers with an 8-3 win Thursday at Elmer Kelley Stadium. Madisonville grabbed a 9-3 win over Caldwell on Tuesday.

The Maroons took advantage of some early wildness from Tiger hurler Gabe East, who walked two in the first inning. Ethan Browning followed with a two-run single to give Madisonville an early 2-0 lead.

East settled down and retired the next six batters before Jon Hogart singled in the third inning. After a walk to Cole Lawrence, Browning added his second two-run single of the game to put Madisonville ahead 4-0.

The Maroons added three more runs in the fifth inning when Alex Gray doubled home a run and scored on a double by Jacob Joseph.

Caldwell County got on the board in the sixth inning when Easton Thompson homered to left field. Levin East and Gabe East both added RBI singles in the seventh inning to close out the Tiger scoring. Levin was the only Tiger with two hits in the contest.

Hogart had three of Madisonville’s eight hits, while Gray struck out six and walked two in picking up the win.

Gabe East took the loss for Caldwell with four earned runs in four innings of work. He tallied five strikeouts and walked three.

Madisonville moved over the .500 mark at 4-3 on the year and 2-0 in district play.

Caldwell County saw their record even at 3-3 and drop to 0-2 in the district. They are scheduled to host former Fifth District rival Livingston Central Saturday at one.
