University Heights Academy junior Weston Wood took first place at the Kentucky Junior PGA Match Play event Sunday at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville.
Wood won the Nicklaus Bracket with a 2&1 win over Ian Petersime of Hebron. It was the closest finish for Wood, who won his semifinal match 7&5 over Benjamin Harris of Scottsville and his opening match 2&1. Wood’s caddie for the event was Granger Greenwell.
Wood is picking up his golf game in the spring where he left off in the fall where he finished 58th at the KHSAA State Golf Tournament – the best finish ever for a UHA golfer. He was also named to the All-Region team.
