Lady Wildcats Drop Pigeon Forge Opener to East Jessamine

4-1-grubbs

Trigg County could not sustain a strong start and watched East Jessamine score 13 unanswered runs in a 13-6 loss Monday. The game was the first of five for the Lady Wildcats this week at the Cal Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

Trigg struck for five runs in the bottom of the first as Hannah Colbert followed three walks with a sacrifice fly. Alyssa Southwood drove in two runs with a single to right, and Rylee Hendricks followed with a triple. She would score on an error on the play.

East Jessamine settled down after the rough start and didn’t allow another Lady Wildcat to reach base until the fifth inning.

The Jaguars, out of the 12th Region, struck for eight runs in the fourth inning. East Jessamine strung together six hits and two walks in the frame. Trigg appeared to escape the jam with a 5-4 lead intact, but two errors prolonged the inning and allowed four unearned runs to score.

East Jessamine tacked on a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh to go up 13-5.

Trigg County a run back in the seventh when Phelan Dossett doubled ahead of a Kara Southwood RBI single.

Alyssa Southwood had two hits and two RBIs, while Dossett and Hendricks had extra base hits for the Lady Wildcats.

Haylee Stansbury had three hits and two RBIs for East Jessamine (9-1), whose only loss came to No. 2 Warren East Sunday. The top three hitters in the Jaguar lineup went 6-for-14, drove in six runs and scored five.

Seven of the 13 runs Hannah Colbert allowed were unearned. She struck out nine and waked four.

Trigg County (4-6) will continue play in the Cal Ripken Experience through Thursday.
