Caldwell County finished its stay at the 26th annual Bob Jones Softball Tournament in Huntsville, Ala., on Saturday morning with a 9-3 setback to Pisgah, Ala.
A five-run fifth inning was the difference, as the Lady Eagles broke a 2-2 tie and went on to post the win in the opening round of the single-elimination championship bracket at the event. Pisgah went on to reach the finals of the tournament.
Caldwell (2-7) led the tourney finalists 2-1 after two innings.
Karlie Rennison drove in two runs with a double to center in the bottom of the second inning to put the Lady Tigers in front.
But Pisgah tied the game on a solo home run in the third, then took the lead with its five-run fifth. Two more runs in the sixth made it 9-2.
Caldwell’s final run came in the bottom of the sixth when Allie Felker doubled to left to start the inning and scored on a triple to right by Haley Stiles.
Only two of Pisgah’s run were earned due to seven Caldwell errors.
Lady Tiger pitcher Katie Franklin allowed eight hits while striking out four and walking three.
Stiles and Felker were each 2-for-3 at the plate for Caldwell while A.J. Hollowell was 2-for-2.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Monday when they visit Graves County. The next home date for Caldwell is Tuesday against 1st Region favorite McCracken County.
