To say the Christian County Lady Colonels bats were hot Tuesday evening would be a bit of an understatement. The Lady Colonels pounded out 20 hits on the way to scoring 20 runs and routing South Warren on the Lady Spartans home field 20-4.
The game was a scoreless battle early, with neither team able to score a run in the first couple of innings. Things changed significantly in the top of the 3rd.
Christian County took control of the game in the top of the third, stringing together five straight hits. Pickle Winkler, Emmy Blane, and Tyler Shemwell all doubled. Hope Jones connected for a single. Reni Shemwell capped off the blitz with a three run homer to center to make it 6-0.
The lead grew to 9-0 in the top of the 4th when Emmy Blane blasted a three run home run to right field.
After South Warren cut the lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the 4th, the Lady Colonels extended the lead to 11-1 in the top of the 6th inning. The big hit in the inning was an RBI double off the bat of Emmy Blane.
The Lady Spartants trimmed the lead to 11-4 in the bottom of the 6th. Then the Lady Colonels put the hammer down for good.
The first ten batters in the top of the 7th inning for Christian County reached base, as the Lady Colonels exploded for nine runs to take the lead to 20-4.
Emmy Blane had a huge game for the Lady Colonels, going 3-3, with two doubles, a home run, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Reni Shemwell was 2-4, with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Pickle Winkler was 2-3, with a double, two walks, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
In the circle, Hannah Sumner picked up the win, going four innings, giving up one unearned run, on three hits, striking out two, while walking none.
