Cullan Brown Awarded SEC Freshman Honor

Coming off a big performance over the weekend, former Lyon County golfer, and current UK freshman men’s golfer Cullan Brown has been named the co-Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday. Brown led the Wildcats to a tie for fourth at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday, the team’s best finish this season. \\Brown finished the weekend in a tie for fifth on the individual leaderboard, easily the best finish of his young career.

Brown missed the entire fall golf season recovering from an injury, has appeared in all five of UK’s spring events. He’s averaging a 72.07 stroke average which was aided by a pair of sub-70 rounds at the Mason Rudolph, including a history-making effort over the opening 18 holes.

In Friday’s opening round, Brown shot a round of 64, which tied for the lowest individual round under head coach Brian Craig in his 18-year stint as UK’s coach. Brown played the opening nine holes 3-under par with birdies on the second, fourth and sixth holes. An eagle at the par-five 14th really got his round going. He finished with birdies on three of his final four holes, including back-to-back at the 17th and 18th for the 7-under round.

Following a 73 during the second round, Brown came back with a vengeance to score a 69 during the final day and move into the top five. His total score of 206 total was 11 strokes better than his previous career-low score. His two sub-70 rounds pushed his season total to seven total rounds of par or lower.
