Lady Wildcats Split Final Two Games at Marshall County Slugfest

4-13-keller

Trigg County split their final two games at the Marshall County Slugfest Saturday, with their opening win coming 1-0 over No. 12 Daviess County.

Hannah Colbert and Logan Darnall, seeing her first action in the circle this year, combined on the two-hit shutout. Colbert pitched four innings and allowed no hits while striking out six. Darnall allowed two hits in three inning and fanned three.

Alyssa Southwood scored Darnall on a groundout in the first inning for the lone run of the game. The last time Trigg County was involved in a 1-0 game was a win over Lyon County last year. Trigg improved to 5-3 all-time in 1-0 contests.

Darnall finished the game with two hits, while Phelan Dossett and Autumn Durham had Trigg’s other two hits. The win was even more impressive given the Lady Wildcats were down two starters who were taking their ACT test Saturday morning.

Colbert was given credit for the win and pitched the seventh inning for the Lady Wildcats.

In their second game Saturday, Lady Wildcat Coach Toree McMain opted to rest Colbert against Spencer County. Colbert is among the state leaders in both strikeouts and innings pitched. Spencer County rapped out 11 hits and beat the Lady Wildcats 19-4.

Kara Southwood had a pair of doubles at the plate. Autumn Durham added a double, and Phelan Dossett singled.

Spencer County (6-5), who came into the game averaging 10 runs a game on offense, scored six runs in the first inning and nine more in the fourth inning.

Emily Cole had a home run and six RBIs for Spencer County. She also picked up the pitching win. She didn’t strike anyone out and walked three.

Trigg County (9-10) finished their weekend in Marshall County with a 3-1 record and will travel to Caldwell County Monday.
