Lawson Ashby and Kayley Wadlington have attended the same school together for over 10 years. They have been a part of the Heritage Christian Academy soccer program since the sixth grade. On Monday, they both signed to continues their soccer and academic career at Freed-Hardeman University.
Ashby and Wadlington were teammates on HCA’s co-ed soccer team that was coached by Tony Henson. He says the NAIA school is getting two solid players they will be a benefit to their program.
Ashby was among the top scorers for the Warriors in 2018 and was named to the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association (KCAA) All-State team. He also played on the basketball team at HCA.
Wadlington was a key member of the defense and played on HCA’s girls’ team in the spring the past two seasons. In 2016, the HCA girls’ soccer team won the KCAA State Tournament. Wadlington has also played basketball and softball for HCA.
Freed-Hardeman, located in Henderson, Tennessee, competes in the American Midwest Conference in the NAIA. The men’s team had a record of 5-12 last year, while the women’s team was 8-8-2. Both teams are coached by Jason Elliott.
