UHA’s Dan Johnson got it done at the plate and on the mound in the Blazers’ 10-0 victory over visiting Fort Campbell on Thursday night, allowing a single hit over five innings while going 3-3 with an RBI as well.
The Blazers even their record at 9-9, 3-3 in the 8th District, with a visit from Crittenden County scheduled for Friday. Fort Campbell slips to 2-9 and will be looking for its first district win when Hopkinsville makes the trip to post on Saturday.
The Blazers got on the board in the bottom of the second when Zach Naylor singled to bring in Mason Price, before stretching the advantage with 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Drew McGowan hit an RBI double and came home when Tanner Thomas reached base on an error, followed by Johnson with a double to score Thomas for a 4-0 score.
The Blazers closed the show in the bottom of the fifth, with Naylor connecting for his second RBI single and Luke Welch doubling with runners at the corners for a 9-run advantage. Ian Tyler reached on an error to allow Johnson to cross home plate and end the game.
Johnson yielded a single hit and no walks, while striking out a couple. McGowan and Naylor each had 2 RBI, with Johnson and Welch driving-in one each.
Ryan Sawyer took the loss for the Falcons, working 4.1 innings while allowing 9 runs, 6 earned, on 6 hits, with 7 walks and 6 strikeouts.
