Livingston Central Edges Trigg County 5-3 With Late Runs

5-1-stallons-2

Livingston Central scored two runs in the home half of the sixth inning to beat Trigg County 5-3 Tuesday, setting up a likely coin toss to determine at least two seeds in the district tournament.

Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, Keegan Slone scored on a double steal to tie the game. The Wildcats, however, left a runner at third with two outs – a common theme in the game.

Livingston put two runners on in the sixth inning on a single and error. A sacrifice moved them to third. A ground ball on the infield prompted an errant throw to home to plate the go-ahead run. Trigg got the batter out trying to advance to second, but the trail runner scored on the play to give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead.

Trigg put runners at first and second in the seventh inning with one out. Cameron Head, who has missed a portion of the season with a leg injury, got a pop up and strikeout to end the game and pick up the save.

Trevor Cortner and Jude Hunter each had two hits for Trigg County. Jacob Kent added a double.

Colton Sumner gave up five hits and struck out two for the Wildcats. Three of the five runs he allowed were earned.

Josh Wilson had two hits for Livingston Central, including a home run.

The Cardinals are 7-10 on the season, while Trigg County slipped to 10-10. Both teams have two district wins, however Trigg has completed their district schedule with a 2-4 mark. They will be either the No. 3 seed or No. 4 seed in the district tournament. The winner of the May 9 game between Livingston Central and Crittenden County will likely decide the No. 2 seed.
