The key hit was an elusive one for Christian County Wednesday as they suffered just their second loss at home this year, a 5-2 setback to Henderson County.
Henderson County never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. Emmy Blane led off the home half of the fourth inning with a home run, and it looked like Christian County had a big inning cooking. Tyler Shemwell and Hope Jones followed with singles. Taylor Shemwell plated a run on a sharp single to left field to bring the southern Colonels to within 3-2. But Henderson County pitcher Madi Stone got out of the inning with no more damage.
Henderson added two big insurance runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 5-2.
Christian County would put two runners on in the sixth inning, but a double play ended the threat.
Jones and Taylor Shemwell each finished with two hits for Christian County, who had six in the contest.
Sophie Margelot had two hits for Henderson County (17-5), who snapped a four-game losing streak to Christian County dating back to the 2015 region title game.
Christian County (21-5) will play at Daviess County Saturday.
