Thomas & McGowan Rally Blazers Past Webster County

Tanner Thomas and Drew McGowan capped off a 7th inning rally with back-to-back RBI singles as University Heights took down Webster County 4-3 Friday night at UHA. The pair’s big 7th inning wrapped up a night that saw them combine for five hits, four RBI’s, and two runs scored.

UHA got on the board first in the game in the bottom of the 1st inning. Drew McGowan led off the inning with a single, stole two bases, and then scored on an RBI single by Thomas to give the Blazers the early 1-0 lead.

Webster County came battling back in the top of the 2nd. The Trojans paired up a couple of walks and two singles to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead.

UHA came back to tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd. After Drew McGowan doubled, and advanced on a wild pitch, Tanner Thomas got the sacrifice bunt down to score McGowan and tie the game at 2-2.

The game would stay that way until the top of the seventh. The Trojans used a single, a passed ball, and another single to take a 3-2 lead headed into the bottom of the inning.

UHA quickly loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning. Ben Stone led off the inning with a single. Ian Tyler walked, and then Mason Price singled to load the bases with no one out.

Dustin Moon then popped up on the infield setting the stage for McGowan and Thomas. McGowan singled to drive in Elvin Wagner, who was pinch-running for Stone, to tie the game at 3-3. Thomas then singled to center to score Mack Major, who was pinch-running for Tyler, with the winning run.

Drew McGowan went 3-3 in the game, with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Tanner Thomas ended up 2-4, with 3 RBIs.

Luke Welch ended up picking up the win for the Blazers in relief. Welch pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up one unearned run, on two hits, and striking out three.
