Rodeo has been in the Stallons family for several years and after Wednesday, it will be for a few more. Trigg County senior Bethany Stallons signed to continue her rodeo career at Murray State University, following in the footsteps of her older brother Aaron and older sister Paige.
She said she had been in contact with Murray State since middle school, especially since her siblings were a part of the rodeo program there. Stallons competes on the Tennessee High School Rodeo Association circuit, which is affiliated with the National High School Rodeo Association.
Stallons finished 16th out of 126 entries in Breakaway Calf Roping at the National High School Finals Rodeo last summer in Rock Spring, Wyoming. She competed in the event throughout the week and finished as high as fourth in a round.
She also competed at the International Finals Youth Rodeo in Shawnee, Oklahoma, one of the largest high school rodeos in the nation.
Stallons is an All-District basketball player at Trigg County, but rodeo has always been her primary love. At Murray State, she will have the chance to compete in barrel racing, goat tying, breakaway calf roping, and team roping.
The Murray State Rodeo Club was formed in 1976 and is one of only two colleges in Kentucky that offers a rodeo program. Murray State competes in the Ozark Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association and hosts a rodeo during the fall semester at the West Kentucky Exposition Center.
