Here is the draw for the 2019 Second Region Softball Tournament at Webster County that begins Monday.

Monday, May 27

11:00 – Lyon County vs. Caldwell County

1:00 – Webster County vs Hopkinsville

3:00 – Madisonville vs Trigg County

5:00 – Christian County vs Henderson County

Tuesday, May 28

Semifinals at 6:00 and 8:00

Wednesday, May 29

Championship at 7:30

 

Here is a team by team breakdown of the Second Region Field.

Lyon County (24-12) – The Lady Lyons won third district title in four years with a 1-0 walk-off win over Trigg County in eight innings in the Fifth District championship…..The Lady Lyons are 14-3 against region teams…..Lyon County has won seven of nine games entering the Second Region Tournament…..Lyon is 3-3 against the tourney field, with two wins against Trigg County and one against Christian County…Lyon’s last loss to a region team was a 16-2 loss to Caldwell County on May 6…..Lyon County’s last region tournament win came over Hopkins County Central in 2016…..Lyon County has never won a region softball championship and have never appeared in a region title game……The Lady Lyons are led offensively by sophomore Calista Collins, who is batting .580 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs…..Allye Culp and Kaelyn Conger have combined to win 24 games and strike out 203 batters with a 3.31 ERA.

Caldwell County (17-12) – The Lady Tigers fell to Madisonville 3-0 in the Seventh District title game – their third loss to the Lady Maroons this year…..The Lady Tigers have won 10-of-12 games entering the region tournament…..Caldwell is 9-6 against region teams and 4-6 against the tournament field.  They own wins over Christian County, Lyon County, Trigg County, and Henderson County…..Caldwell got hot at the right time last year, advancing to their first region championship in 16 years where they lost to Christian County in nine innings….Caldwell County has won three region titles, with their last coming in 2002…..Murray State signee Mashea Glover is batting .364 with eight home runs, while Asbury signee Katie Franklin has four homers at the plate and is 17-10 in the circle with 200 strikeouts and a 1.79 ERA.

Webster County (26-10) – The Lady Trojans beat Henderson County 3-1 in 11 innings to claim the Sixth District title on a Karlie Keeney walk-off home run…..Webster is 11-2 against region teams, including a 7-1 record against the tournament field…..The Lady Trojans own three wins over Henderson County, a 10-0 win over Caldwell County, a 7-5 win over Christian County, a 9-0 win over Madisonville, and a 6-1 victory at Trigg County…..Webster lost to Madisonville 5-3 on April 30…..Webster is 5-5 over their final 10 games entering the tournament with four of the five losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 25 poll…..Webster is making their fourth region tourney appearance in the past decade.  They have lost in the first round two of the last three years…..Webster County has never won a region softball title and have never advanced past the semifinals……Liberty signee Karlie Keeney is batting .380 with nine homers and 33 RBIs.  She is also 16-4 in the circle with a 191 strikeouts and a region-leading 0.52 ERA…..Kentucky Wesleyan signee Grace Scott is batting .398 and has won 10 games in the circle with a 2.54 ERA.

Hopkinsville (12-23) – The Lady Tigers lost to Christian County 16-1 in the championship game of the 8th District Tournament…..Hopkinsville is 7-8 against teams in the region and 0-3 against the tourney field.  They lost to Christian County twice and Henderson County once…..Nadia Clayton is one of two seniors on the Hoptown roster.  She is batting .403 with six home runs and 25 RBIs…..Hopkinsville lost to Crittenden County 14-0 in last year’s first round.  Hoptown has lost six straight region openers.   Their last win was a 4-0 shutout of Union County in 2001.

Madisonville (20-9) – The Lady Maroons beat Caldwell County 3-0 to claim their seventh consecutive Seventh District title…..The Lady Maroons ride a four-game winning streak into the region tournament and have won 14-of-16 games…..Madisonville is 12-3 against region teams and 6-3 against the tourney field…..The Lady Maroons beat Caldwell County three times and join Hopkins County Central as the only two region teams to hand Webster County a loss…..Madisonville has won six straight first round games dating back to a 3-2 loss to Livingston Central in the 2012 tourney…..Madisonville saw their four-year reign as region champions end last year with a semifinal loss to Christian County…..Courtney Patterson, a Campbellsville signee and 2017 state tournament MVP, is 16-6 with a 2.46 ERA.  She is also batting .429 with eight home runs. 

Trigg County (17-16) – The Lady Wildcats lost in eight innings to Lyon County 1-0 in the Fifth District title game…..Trigg County is making just their third appearance in the region tournament since the state switched to fast pitch in 1995.  They lost to Madisonville in 2016 and Christian County in 2018.  Both teams went on to win the region title…..The Lady Wildcats were 6-7 against region teams and 1-6 against the tourney field.  Their only win came against Lyon County in March…..Trigg County has scored just six runs in their last six games entering the region tournament, with three of those shutout losses…..While Trigg County is batting .259 (the lowest of any team in the field), they have a team ERA of 2.33 which ranks fourth…..John A. Logan signee Hannah Colbert led the region in strikeouts with 231 and was third in ERA at 1.50.

Christian County (28-8) – The Lady Colonels won their 15th straight district title by mercy-ruling Fort Campbell and Hopkinsville in the district tourney…..Christian County ended a six-year state tournament drought by beating Caldwell County 5-3 in nine innings in last year’s region championship…..The Lady Colonels are 10-4 against region teams and 7-4 against the region tourney field.  The four losses came to Henderson County, Lyon County, Caldwell County, and Webster County…..The Lady Colonels have won seven of nine games entering the region tourney…..Christian County has won nine region softball championships, almost double the five won by Madisonville…..Murray State signee Tyler Shemwell leads the region in both home runs (16) and RBIs (65), while University of Kentucky signee Emmy Blane has 13 homers and 36 runs batted in.

Henderson County (25-7) – The Lady Colonels lost a tough 11-inning game to Webster County in the Sixth District championship and enter the region tourney with an 11-5 record against region teams…..Henderson County is 3-5 against the region field, with three of the losses coming to district rival Webster County…..Henderson County won region titles in 1997, 2005, and 2006…..Henderson’s last win in the region tournament came in 2015, which was also their last appearance in the region title game.  They lost to Madisonville 6-1…..Morehead State signee Hattie Hartman is batting .370 with three home runs, while Kaytlan Kemp is batting .404 with 34 stolen bases.
