The 2019 Top Seed Tennis Center/KHSAA State Tennis Tournament began with Caldwell County’s Belle Englebright being the first Lady Tiger to make it to the state level as a seeded player. Now, the 9th-seeded Englebright has moved on to the second day of the tournament for the first time in her career.

And, she did not just reach the Round of 16. She got there without losing a single game on the first day of the tournament.

Englebright’s day got started early, with an 8am match against Hayden Turley, of George Rogers Clark. Englebright got off to a quick start and never looked back, winning the match by a score of 6-0, 6-0. The match took just over 40 minutes to complete.

Her 2nd round matchup came against a familiar foe, Marissa Austin, of Webster County. Austin had been impressive in her first match of the day, knocking off Jessalyn Osborn, of Lawrence County, 6-4, 6-3.

After defeating Austin 6-0, 6-3 in the regional semifinals, Englebright was even more impressive Thursday afternoon, rolling to the 6-0, 6-0 win.

Things figure to get a good bit more difficult for Englebright Friday morning. She will take on #1 seed Carrie Beckman, of Sacred Heart, at 8:00am in the Round of 16. With a win, she would advance to the quarterfinals Friday afternoon at 1:00pm.
