There are no mulligans in track and field. If you start before the gun, it’s a false start and a disqualifications. No warnings. No do-overs.
Isiah Pantiere’s false start in the 100-meter dash Thursday at the Class A State Track Meet could have ended his day mentally. Instead, the University Heights Academy senior and Louisville signee buckled down and won the 400-meter run easily and followed that with a state record run in winning the 200-meter dash going away.
You won’t find many athletes who enjoy what they do while they are doing it more than Pantiere, who put that on full display Thursday.
