Hunter Evans two run homer in the 3rd put the Hoppers up 3-0.
Hunter Evans and Micah Genter combined to drive in all eight runs, as the Hoptown Hoppers came from behind to defeat the Owensboro River Dawgs 8-5 Friday night. The win was the third in a row for the Hoppers.
The Hoppers got things going in the bottom of the first. After leading off the inning with a single, Drew McGowan stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a ground out to short to put Hoptown up 1-0 after an inning.
Hoptown would add to that lead in the bottom of the third inning, using the long ball to do so. Robbie McCargar reached on a single to the left side. Hunter Evans followed that up with a two run blast to left field to extend the Hoppers lead to 3-0 after three.
Hoppers pitching struggles opened up an opportunity for the River Dawgs in the top of the 5th inning. Owensboro took three straight walks from Hoptown pitching and converted them into two runs, using a fielder’s choice and a ground out to score the runs, and cut the lead to 3-2 after five innings of play.
The River Dawgs got to the lead in the top of the 6th inning. After a walk and a single, Bailey Falkenstein blasted a Wyatt Stevenson pitch over the left field wall to give Owensboro the lead at 5-3.
The Hoppers came right back in the bottom of the 7th inning. After getting three walks to open up the bottom of the 7th, Micah Genter doubled to left to tie the game at 5-5. Hoptown would go back in front when Hunter Evans hit a sacrifice fly driving in Drew McGowan, and putting the Hoppers back up 6-5. Hoptown added a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning when Micah Genter tripled to centerfield to push the lead out to 8-5.
Brennan Crooms then set the River Dawgs down in order in the top of the 9th to close out the win.
Micah Genter had a huge night for the Hoppers, going 2-5, with 5 RBIs. Hunter Evans finished 1-2, with a home run, and 3 RBIs.
