A long and successful collaboration has come to an end for the Caldwell County High School tennis program.
Kim Farmer has resigned as head coach of the CCHS teams after a 26-year run. Longtime assistant coach Raymond Giannini is also stepping down.
“Raymond always said we were a package deal. He said when I resigned, he would resign,” said Farmer, who announced she was leaving the program during the team’s banquet on Tuesday night.
“It was just time,” she added. “I’ve got a grandson and I just want to spend more time with my family.”
Farmer said she and Giannini went through Caldwell’s regional team championship and runner-up trophies.
“We counted 16 trophies,” she noted.
The Lady Tigers won the 2nd Region team title this past season — as well as the Section 1 team championship — and will be among the favorites again next season.
“I feel like whoever takes the job could have another regional winner next year,” said Farmer.
At one time, Caldwell’s tennis program struggled in the numbers department, but Farmer and Giannini were instrumental in building interest among both girls and boys players.
“Raymond and I had a no-cut program,” Farmer said. “If someone wanted to play we were going to give them the chance. One year we had as many as 27 players on the team combined.
“But the biggest thing is we’ve always had good kids and good parents.”
