The Hoptown Hoppers were limited to two singles over the first six innings of Sunday night’s meeting with visiting Fulton, before seeing a 7th-inning rally end with the bases loaded in a 2-1 loss to the Railroaders. The game only went seven innings due to a scheduled double-header, but bad weather forced postponement of the second game. The Hoppers drop their second-straight with a road match-up with the Madisonville Miners scheduled for Tuesday.
Hoppers’ starting pitcher Hunter Crosby lasted three innings, walking 7 and yielding 2 earned runs before giving way to former Christian County Colonel Wyatt Stevenson. He controlled the Railroaders over the final four frames, allowing a single hit to keep the Hoppers within striking distance.
Micah Genter drew a walk to start the bottom of the seventh followed by a single by Brennan Crooms. Seth Bennett singled to drive in the Hoppers’ first run and Charlie Fischer walked on four pitches to load the bases with two outs. First-baseman Ben Huber fouled-off the first five pitches he saw from the Railroaders’ Cade Killingsworth, but flied-out in foul territory to end the game.
Fulton’s Drew Kirby earned the win, working 4.2 innings and allowing 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.
