Former Caldwell County High School boys’ basketball head coach Greg McQueary has announced that he is stepping down from that same post at Boone County High School in northern Kentucky.
McQueary spent 15 seasons on the Rebels’ bench, leading Boone County to the 9th Region championship in 2012 and an appearance in the state tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington.
McQueary announced his resignation on the Boone County basketball website.
“After 15 years as head coach of the Boone County Rebels, I have decided to step away from leading the boys’ basketball program. I wish to thank the principals for whom I have worked during my tenure for their support, as well as the students, staff, parents and fans. Thanks to all the players and assistant coaches, who have enriched my life the past 15 seasons, for your energy and effort. Also, a special thanks to Jay Leftin for coaching my entire tenure. I would be remiss if I did not thank my wife and children for making those sacrifices which have enabled me to proudly coach the Rebels all of these years. It is with great pride and fond memories that I leave the basketball program.”
McQueary was 242-203 as Boone County head coach. His 242 wins are just 19 short of the school record.
McQueary was head coach at Caldwell County for five seasons from 1999-2004. He compiled a 51-80 record with the Tigers.
McQueary, who played college basketball at Murray State University, has spent 28 seasons as a high school boys head coach in Kentucky and 31 years coaching basketball at the high school level.
McQueary’s head coaching mark, which also includes time at Bardstown, is 391-382.
