Lyon County Post 68 is just one win away from repeating at Kentucky American Legion state champion.
The Post 68 Aces used seven-run frames in both the second and third innings to subdue Ashland Post 76 18-8 in six innings Friday night in Eddyville.
Down 3-0 and 5-2 early in the game, Lyon County (14-5-1) roared back to end the contest an inning early on the 10-run mercy rule.
Lyon County will play in the championship round at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Jim Boyd Field at Lee S. Jones Park. Post 68 would have to be beaten twice for someone else to claim the state title.
Will Thompson was 3-for-4 with an RBI in Friday’s victory over Ashland. Colbe Crim went 2-for-3 with a double and four runs batted in while Davis Corbett was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Gabe Board went 2-for-4 and knocked in a run. Drew Cooper was 1-for-3 and drove in three.
Ashland outhit Lyon County 14-13, but Post 68 was issued 13 free passes.
Meanwhile, Lyon County pitcher Cameron Head did not walk a batter in a complete-game performance. Head allowed six earned runs and struck out two.
