Lyon County senior Jeremiah Wilkerson looks to pass to a teammate during scrimmage action earlier this month.
The Lyon County boys’ soccer program is trying to regroup after a 2-18-1 showing last season.
In addition, the Lyons lost their head coach during the offseason, leaving the school scrambling to find a replacement.
Lyon went back to the future, hiring Mike Daily to return to the sideline.
Daily has been a fixture in Lyon County soccer, helping to create the youth soccer program in Eddyville and helping in the early days of the high school program in the 1990s.
He replaces Derek McCuiston, who resigned after four years as coach following his arrest in April. McCuiston was 30-49-1 in four seasons as coach.
Daily takes over a program that had just one senior in practice as of late last week, but could have one more become eligible once school begins.
Jeremiah Wilkerson is the only senior for now as Lyon will rely heavily on five juniors and seven sophomores. Wilkerson scored two goals last season, but the Lyons graduated 30 of their 32 goals from 2018.
A big concern for Daily is who will be in the net for the Lyons.
Junior Cole Schroeder has been moved around some, but appears headed to goalkeeper for this season.
Daily said the Lyons are still working on formulating a starting lineup.
The Lyon coach did note that he thinks his squad should be very competitive with Trigg County in what is a two-team 5th District chase.
Lyon will begin the regular season on Monday with a trip to Murray High School. The first home date for the Lyons is Monday, Aug. 19, against Todd County Central.
