Todd County Central’s volleyball team is already making strides early in the season. It’s hasn’t showed up in the win column, but the foundation is being laid for success that could come in this year’s postseason.
The Lady Rebels took Franklin-Simpson to five sets before falling 25-12, 22-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-8.
Todd struggled out of the gate in losing the first set before rallying to win the second set. The Lady Rebels were up 24-19 and held off a late rally from the Wildcats.
Todd’s momentum was short-lived as Franklin-Simpson jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set. Todd could never catch the Lady Cats, falling behind 20-8. Todd mounted a rally behind the serving of Presley Conquest and Brylee Shemwell. Lucy Chester had three kills in an 11-4 run before Franklin-Simpson won the set 25-19.
The fourth set saw Todd County lead 17-13 before F-S tied the set at 17. The rest of the set wasn’t separated by more than two points before Todd won 26-24.
F-S jumped out to another quick start in the fifth set, leading 10-2 before winning 15-8.
Todd County’s service game was strong for the match, topping 90-percent over the final three sets.
Chester was strong at the net with 17 kills for the Lady Rebels. Conquest added five kills, five assists, and five aces. Freshman Addleigh Wofford, in her first year of playing volleyball, was solid in the setting game with 20 assists and two aces. Shemwell had three kills and five of Todd County Central’s 15 aces in the contest.
Franklin-Simpson improved to 1-1 with their sixth straight win over Todd County Central.
The Lady Rebels will gun for their first win of the 2019 season Thursday when they host Fort Campbell.
