Caldwell Girls Blank Lyon 4-0 in Shortened Game

Caldwell County defeated Lyon County for the 10th straight time, scoring four first-half goals in a 4-0 triumph in Eddyville in girls’ soccer action on Monday.

The former district rivals played less than 2:30 into the second half before lightning brought an early end to the contest.

The Lady Tigers (3-1) scored twice in the first 12 minutes while ending the four-game winning streak of the Lady Lyons (4-2).

Morgan McDaniels scored from the left side in the 10th minute, getting help from Laken White to put Caldwell up 1-0.

Hannah Young then scored from in front in the 12th minute. She was set up by Kaylee McEnaney to make it 2-0.

Lucy Goffinet found the net in the 29th minute off an assist from Kendall Boyd.

Young recorded her second goal in the 34th minute, scoring off a rebound following a McEnaney shot to give Caldwell its 4-0 advantage.

The Lady Tigers outshot Lyon 23-10 in the shortened contest.

Karsyn Parker recorded four saves in the Caldwell net while Abby Smith had eight stops for Lyon.

The Lady Tigers now lead the all-time series 32-8-3.

Caldwell also won the JV game on Monday 6-2 behind Keegan Miller and Tallie Branch, who scored two goals apiece.

The teams came together before the varsity game to honor late Caldwell football coach David Barnes. The Lady Lyons unveiled a sign that read, “Barnes Strong, Lyon stands behind Caldwell.”

Both teams play again on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers host 7th District foe Madisonville-North Hopkins while Lyon entertains Webster County.
