Hoptown Keeps District Streak Alive in Win Over Falcons

Hopkinsville returned from a nine-day layoff to score a season-high in goals in their 7-0 district win over Fort Campbell Tuesday at the Stadium of Champions.

Hoptown scored five of their seven goals in the first half as four different Tigers found the net in a 14-minute stretch.

Freshman Miguel Magana scored Hoptown’s first goal in the eighth minute when he rebounded a shot off the crossbar. Welby Horn added a goal 80 seconds later to put the Tigers ahead 2-0.

Magana fed Zach Bryant on Hoptown’s third goal three minutes later.

Tyler Greenwell scored the first of his three goals when he took a punt by Tiger goalie Xavier Bussell and blasted a shot home in the 22nd minute.

Greenwell added a penalty kick right before halftime to put Hoptown up 5-0.

Magana and Greenwell scored second half goals, with Greenwell’s completing the hat trick for the Tiger senior.

Hopkinsville was the aggressor in the first half, putting up 21 shots. The finished the game with 30.

Hoptown is 34-0-3 in their last 37 games against region competition and have won 22 straight games against 8th District competition.

On Thursday, the Tigers will host Madisonville – the last region team to knock off Hoptown. That came in the 2015 region championship.
