The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers volleyball team had to battle, but ended up coming away with an 8th District win over Fort Campbell Thursday evening. With a very strong 4th set, the Lady Tigers came away with the 3-1 win over the Lady Falcons.
The match opened as if it would be a battle all night long. With Fort Campbell leading 18-16 in the opening set, Hopkinsville made their move. The Lady Tigers scored five points in a row to take a 21-18 lead. They would go on to take the opening set 25-19.
Hopkinsville’s strong finish in the opening set carried over to the beginning of the second. Leading 3-2, Hopkinsville went on a 10-1 run to take a 13-3 lead. The Lady Tigers would then roll on to take the second set 25-15 and go up in the match 2-0.
Fort Campbell was not prepared to go quietly though. The Lady Falcons rallied in the third set. With Hopkinsville leading 17-11 and looking as if they were ready to sweep the match, Fort Campbell went on a 7-0 run to take the lead at 18-17. The Lady Falcons then fought their way to a 25-22 win in the set to make it two sets to one.
The Lady Tigers played their best volleyball of the night in the 4th set. Hoptown scored the first nine points of the 4th set and then cruised on out to close out the match with a 25-6 win.
It was a big night for Alyssa Bearns, who finished with 8 kills, 2 digs, and 4 aces. Marley Hancock added 6 aces and 22 assists. Hope Pace had another Hope Pace-like night, finishing with 10 kills, 2 blocks, and four aces.
With the win, Hopkinsville improves to 3-5 on the season. Fort Campbell drops to 2-7.
