The Madisonville-North Hopkins girls soccer team pulled even with Henderson County in last week’s rankings and neither team blinked over the last seven days to remain knotted at the top.  With almost a month played in the season, the teams below also held serve for a Super 7 that looks very similar to last week.

1. Henderson County (6-3-3) – Since the last rankings, the Lady Colonels earned shutout wins over Hopkinsville and Webster County to stay unbeaten in district and regional play.  Defensively, they’ve allowed more than a single goal only once, a 3-1 loss to 12-2 Daviess County.  The Lady Colonels will be busy over the next week, with match-ups with Owensboro and Paul Lawrence Dunbar preceding a 6th-District meeting with Union County and a tantalizing tilt with University Heights Academy.

1. Madisonville-North Hopkins (9-1-1) – The Lady Maroons have scored over 20 more goals than any other team in the region, led by 28 strikes from Camryn LaGrange.  They haven’t lost since the first game of the season and last week was business as usual with wins over Marshall County and Ohio County and an 8-0 shellacking of what was a red-hot Fort Campbell team.  Stiff tests await this weekend at the Lady Donley Classic, with McCracken County and Oldham County visiting, followed by a trip to Muhlenberg County to play in the Constitution Day Invitational.

3. University Heights Academy (5-2-1) – The Lady Blazers highlighted their week with a couple of victories in the All “A” Classic, including a dramatic, shootout win over Murray High in the All “A” sectional. Before that, UHA topped Fort Campbell 2-1 to claim the 2nd Region All “A” title and stay unbeaten against district and regional competition.  The emotionally drained Lady Blazers followed with a 2-2 draw at Caldwell County.  A tough stretch awaits, with visits from Marshall County and a rematch with Fort Campbell, followed by a trip to Ohio County and an opportunity to announced themselves as contenders for the regional crown with a road match at Henderson County.

4. Hopkinsville (5-6) – The Lady Tiger defense flexed its muscles in three matches since last week’s rankings, with a respectable 2-0 loss to Henderson County followed by shutout wins over Hopkin County Central and Muhlenberg County.  The 4-0 result over the Lady Storm snapped a five-game skid and marked only the second time this season they had been shutout.  Three road matches await over the next five days, starting with a trip to Caldwell County and an important 8th-District meeting with Christian County on either side of a trip to Eddyville to face Lyon County.

5. Fort Campbell (6-4) – The Lady Falcons were riding a five-game win streak before a valiant effort in a 2-1 loss to UHA in the 2nd Region All “A” title game.  A loss to Madisonville-North Hopkins in their next outing isn’t the end of the world, but the manner in which they lost may signal they aren’t quite ready to challenge for the region.  The 8-0 setback is Fort Campbell’s most lopsided of the season.  Ample opportunities to get back on track await, with road trips to UHA, Caldwell County and Crittenden County along with a visit from Northwest, TN coming up over the next seven days.

6. Caldwell County (5-4) – The temptation is to chalk up the Lady Tigers’ 2-2 draw with UHA to emotional and physical fatigue for the Lady Blazers, but that’s not Caldwell’s problem.  The Lady Tigers rode a two-game winning run into the match with UHA and deserve credit for the tie.  Upcoming visits from Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell provide more opportunities for strong showings against 8th-District competition, as well as a chance to move up in next week’s rankings.

7. Hopkins County Central (6-3) – The Lady Storm still boast the second-best record in the region, but were outclassed 4-0 by Hopkinsville in an opportunity for a marquee victory.  Coming up, they will look for their second win of the season over Lyon County, before another chance at a statement win at Caldwell County is followed by a visit from Trigg County.
