Hopkinsville saw their 40-game unbeaten streak against region opposition end Tuesday night against Henderson County – the team that tied them twice in that span. The Colonels beat the Tigers 3-0 in a game that featured a delay caused by a lighting failure.
Midway through the first half, a bank of lights went out that caused a nearly 15-minute delay. Henderson County struck first after the delay when Adam Gillham scored his ninth goal of the season just before halftime.
The teams continued to battle in the second half, but Henderson scored twice in the final 10 minutes to put the match away. David Gonzalez notched his 21st goal of the season for a 3-0 Colonel lead that would stand up.
Henderson’s defense, which has allowed 12 goals in 13 games, limited Hopkinsville to just two shots on goal in the contest. The last region team to shut out the Tigers was Christian County in the 2014 district championship.
The loss also ends Hopkinsville’s 40-match unbeaten streak against region competition. Their last loss came to Madisonville in the 2015 region tournament, although Henderson County tied them twice during the streak.
Henderson County (10-1-2) joins Trigg County as the first teams in the region to reach 10 wins this season.
Hopkinsville (7-5-1) will host McCracken County Thursday and play in the Colonel Showcase Saturday at the Stadium of Champions against Warren Central.
