Caldwell County scored three times in a shootout — and Josh Hagan made a pair of key saves — as the Tigers edged Hopkins County Central 2-1 Tuesday at Butler Stadium in Princeton.

The teams battled through 80 minutes of regulation of 10 minutes of overtime in a physical 7th District contest.

The only goals during regulation came on penalty kicks.

Jesus Gallegos gave Hopkins Central (2-5-3 overall, 0-1 district) a 1-0 lead early in the second half after Caldwell was called for a foul in the penalty box.

But Caldwell (3-7-1, 1-0) tied things in the 54th minute. Blake Vivrette scored after being taken down in the box to make it a 1-1 game.

In the shootout, Hugo Lopez, Grayden Miller and Vivrette each converted their shots for the Tigers.

Meanwhile, only Jaxon Greer found the net for the Storm.

Hagan made two saves for Caldwell while another Hopkins Central shot sailed over the crossbar.

Vivrette ended the shootout when he converted his shot, giving the Tigers a 3-1 win in PKs and a 2-1 victory in the match.

Hopkins Central held an 11-8 advantage in shots in the contest.

Hagan finished with 10 saves in the Tiger net.

Caldwell, which is 2-0-1 in its last three outings, will visit district foe Madisonville-North Hopkins on Monday. The top seed for the 7th District tournament will be on the line.
