After yielding twenty-eight goals over three shutout losses, the Lyon County boys’ soccer team stiffened defensively Thursday night, holding streaking Mayfield to a couple of scores. Unfortunately, the Lyons offense couldn’t hold up its end in a 2-0 loss to the host Cardinals.
Lyon County suffers its fourth-straight shutout defeat to slip to 2-11-1 overall, while Mayfield is headed in the other direction with three-consecutive victories to move to 4-6-3.
Alberto Arellano provided all the offense for the Cardinals, finding the back of the net twice for a team-leading 8 goals. Isaias Bartolo added an assist, while goalkeeper Diego Juarez made 8 saves to preserve the shutout.
The Lyons will meet another team looking to put an end to an extended losing streak when they travel to Elkton on Monday to face Todd County Central.
