At 4-1, the Caldwell County football team is off to a strong start this season.

Quick starts is a big reason for that. On the year, Caldwell is averaging over 32 points a game, but much of that damage is coming in the first half. The Tigers have put up 135 points in the first two quarters and only 27 in the final two periods. However, Caldwell has reached the 36-point mercy threshold three times, accounting for some of that difference.

Still, Caldwell interim head coach Waynee McGowan says getting the lead early has been instrumental this season, especially in wins the last two weeks over Crittenden County and Union County.

Your Sports Edge talked to McGowan Friday night following the Tigers’ Homecoming win over Union.
