As the regular season winds down, the girls’ soccer Super 7 looks much as it did last week, with a tie at the top and five teams below holding onto spots 3-7. Here’s a look at the rankings and what each team did last week and what remains in the regular season.
1. Madisonville-North Hopkins (13-1-1) – While it feels like the Lady Maroons may have nudged ahead of Henderson County, other than slightly different scores against common teams, there aren’t any results to seperate the two. Madisonville only played once since the last rankings, a comfortable 4-1 road win over Hopkinsville. Big regular-season games remain, with a match-up at Murray and a visit from University Heights Academy that could result in some movement at the top of the rankings.
1. Henderson County (9-4-3) – With four losses and three draws, the Lady Colonels don’t boast the record Madisonville does, but all four defeats have come against tough teams that don’t appear on the Lady Maroons’ schedule. A narrow 1-0 win over UHA was Henderson’s only match since the last rankings, but a looming match with Greenwood, 6-1 winners over Madisonville, could provide an opportunity for an impressive result.
3. University Heights Academy (6-5-2) – The Lady Blazers hold their spot despite a three-game slide, including a respectable 1-0 loss to Henderson County and a 3-1 setback in the All “A” State Tournament over the last week. A regular-season capping trip to Madisonville-North Hopkins provides a final chance to move up in the rankings and build some momentum going into the postseason.
4. Hopkinsville (8-8-1) – After a three game win streak, the Lady Tigers have dropped two-straight with a 3-1 loss to Murray and a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Madisonville-North Hopkins. Hoptown will be favored in its final two regular-season matches, while rumblings that Ana Hernandez could make a return from injury in the postseason creates some excitement around the team. Should Hernandez take the field, not only the 8th District, but the 2nd-Region as well, become more interesting.
5. Caldwell County (9-5-2) – The Lady Tigers appear to be playing their best soccer at the right time, with a 2-1 setback against Murray the only non-win in their last nine matches. Caldwell avenged an All “A” loss to Fort Campbell in emphatic fashion, crushing the Lady Falcons 5-0, while also topping Logan County over the last week. The Lady Tigers will be favored in their final regular-season match against Trigg County, before wrapping up their schedule against Paducah Tilghman and Calloway County.
6. Fort Campbell (9-6-0) – The Lady Falcons have lost four of seven, while being shutout in their last three defeats by Madisonville, UHA and Caldwell. They bounced back with a 4-2 win over Christian County to earn the third seed in the 8th-District tournament. Two 2nd-Region opponents remain to close the regular season, with visitis from Webster County and Trigg County.
7. Hopkins County Central (11-5) – The Lady Storm hold the region’s second best record, but have mostly feasted on teams from the bottom half of the region. They were busy over the last seven days, going 4-1 with wins over Trigg County, Christian County, Crittenden County and McLean County. However, there was also a 9-0 loss to Hopkinsville, their second loss this season to the Lady Tigers. Matches against Union County and Crittenden remain, with the Lady Storm already owning victories over both earlier in the season.
