While there is no change this week in the YSE 2nd Region Volleyball Super 7, things have tightened up at the top, and have tightened up in the group of four trying to crack the mystique of the top three in the region. There are some big tests this week, so don’t be surprised if next week’s Super 7 looks somewhat different. For now status quo is the word of the day.
– Caldwell County (17-10) – A tough trip to the Kentucky Challenge for the Lady Tigers. They rebounded by coming back to this end of the state and taking care of Hopkins Central in the fashion you would expect them to. A big one Thursday night, as they host Henderson County. They continue to hold #1, for now.
– University Heights (13-2) – Make it 8 in a row for the Lady Blazers, and they have lost only one set during that run. They look primed and ready for the postseason. A big weekend for the Lady Blazers ahead, as they head off to Quad State in Paducah.
– Henderson County (18-7) – Losses to Apollo and Daviess County are the only things standing in the way of the northern Lady Colonels having a 15 match winning streak. This team could cause concern in the postseason. A road match against Caldwell County will tell us a bunch about this team.
– Crittenden County (11-12) – The Lady Rockets have a slight edge at the top of the “group of four” that appears to make up the tier of dark horse teams in the region. They look easily like the best of the 5th District, which at least would give them a district runner-up draw in the opening round of the region tournament.
– Webster County (10-12) – The Lady Trojans have won five of their last seven matches. They handled the teams they were supposed to handle, but were manhandled by Caldwell County and Henderson County.
– Madisonville (11-12) – The Lady Maroons just appear to be a team that beats who they are supposed to beat. They have some losses that would concern you going into the postseason, especially since last year’s team was upset in the district semifinals.
– Hopkinsville (7-9) – The return of Hailey Hallmark helps the Lady Tigers. They have won 3 in a row, all over 8th District opponents, including Wednesday night’s five setter against Christian County, who they will have to play again in the opening round of the 8th District tournament.
