Christian County has played some good soccer down the stretch of the season even if their record does not reflect it. The Colonels led Madisonville for eight minutes of the first half before a second half barrage allowed the Maroons to claim a 5-1 win Thursday at the Stadium of Champions.
Benito Rubio put the Colonels ahead with a goal in the 16th minute. Dalton Daves answered for Madisonville eight minutes later to knot the game at 1-1. That score would hold up until halftime.
Ivan Juarez began the second half with a Madisonville goal for a quick 2-1 lead.
The Colonels continued their strong defensive effort in the second half until Madisonville wore them down. The Maroons scored three goals in the final 10 minutes for the final four-goal margin. Daves added his second goal, and Jeshua DeLeon and Luke McElroy also had goals for Madisonville (15-3-2), who won their fifth straight game over the Colonels.
Christian County (3-16-2) will play Hopkinsville Monday in the district semifinals at the Stadium of Champions.
