Heritage Christian Academy will try and make history and unseat the eight-time state champion at this weekend’s KCAA State Soccer Tournament in Elizabethtown.

The Warriors received a No. 2 seed in the tournament which placed them into the semifinals. HCA will play Assumption Thursday at 6pm at the Elizabethtown Sports Park. Assumption needed a penalty kick round to beat No. 6 North Hardin Christian 2-1 Tuesday.

The other semifinal features eight-time defending state champion and top seed Somerset Christian and No. 4 seed Highlands Latin.

Heritage Christian brings a 7-5 record into Thursday’s match. They are making their first KCAA semifinal appearance since 2016 which was also their last win at the state tournament.

Thursday’s winners will meet in the championship match Saturday at 6pm. A Thursday win by the Warriors would put them into the championship for the first time since 2011. The Warriors have never won a KCAA state soccer title.

Heritage beat Assumption 2-1 on Sept. 28 behind goals from Ryan Trapnell and Thomas West.
