Pink Up The Pace 5K in St. Augustine fun and unique

One thing I like to do if possible when I am out of town is find a 5K or 10K run so I can interact with locals and also have some fun. Today’s Pink Up The Pace 5K in St. Augustine, Fla., was sensational. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect but this run was so much fun and there were so many cancer survivors participating that made it even more special. Pink was the color of the day — with pink wigs, hairbows, shirts, tights, tutus and more.

We got to run through the heart of the historic district — something I was told doesn’t happen but a few times each year because of the number of streets that had to be blocked. However, it made the 3.1 miles so much more fun.

There were at least four bands playing along the route and a lot of locals and/or tourists cheering along the route. First time I have got to high five a pirate during a run and others were also in historical costumes. My time could have been a little faster but I wanted to high five everyone of them — and did. I also spent a lot of time talking to local runners along the way.

The pre and post race festivities were so good — just like the packet pickup was on Friday that had a ton of vendors giving away stuff. Same after the race. Plenty of goodies to eat and drink along with festive music.

If you ever come this way — and after being on the beach and eating at just three restaurants so far I can’t imagine why anyone would not come — there are plenty of running events. Seems like there is at least one every weekend of the year, including a half-marathon I saw in November.
