Trigg County came out of the bye week accomplishing what they needed to do – snap a three-game losing streak and get back on the winning track for the final third of the season. The Wildcats rolled up 516 yards of offense to beat Webster County 61-30 Friday in Dixon. It was Trigg’s ninth straight win over the Trojans and 20th in 24 career meetings.
The Wildcats jumped ahead 21-7 in the first quarter and built the advantage to 40-20 by halftime.
Cade Bleidt sandwiched a pair of 5-yard touchdown runs around a 60-yard touchdown strike from Cam Jordan to Jaquellus Martin. Bleidt finished with a career-high 142 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns.
Jordan found Andrew Syester on a 13-yard scoring strike to start the second quarter and added a 59-yard touchdown pass to Kion Thompson just over a minute later. Jordan also had a 15-yard scoring run. The senior quarterback threw for 287 yards and three scores and added 55 yards rushing.
Webster County, who came into the game averaging 207 passing yards a game, scrapped the passing game and switched to a wing-T offense. The Trojans had some success with the switch in the second quarter. Webster ran for 169 yards in the first half with Hayden Nunn and Ayden Winn scoring on runs.
Trigg County opened the second half with an 83-yard kick return for a touchdown by Tayshaun Barker that put the Wildcats up 47-20. The Wildcat defense adjusted better in the second half to the Trojan wing-T, allowing 72 rushing yards on 25 carries.
Webster County was able to keep several scoring drives alive thanks to 12 Trigg penalties for 144 yards. The Trojans ran 20 more plays than the Wildcats.
Bleidt joins Jordan in rushing for four touchdowns in a game this season. Jordan ran for four scores against Fort Campbell.
Trigg County (5-3) will host Union County next week. A Wildcat win means they will host their first playoff game since 2014. A loss means a first round road trip. Either way, they are playing Union County in the first round.
