Trigg County High School inducted its ninth athletic Hall of Fame class Saturday, and track and field standout Danny Jones was among the inductees.

Jones was a school record holder in the pole vault at Trigg County and also played for the Wildcat football team.

He won the first of his three region titles in 1967. At the Class 1A State Meet, Jones cleared 11-feet, 6-inches to finish in third place. That set a new school record and was nine inches lower than the state champion. Jones became the first Trigg County track and field athlete to score at the state meet.

In his junior year in 1968, Jones again won region and again cleared 11-feet, 6-inches at the state meet. This time, his height was good for second place.

Jones increased his height during his senior season of 1969, winning the third of his three straight pole vault region titles. At the state meet, Jones cleared 12-feet, 9-inches which stood as a school record for 14 years until Stuart White eclipsed it by one inch.

Besides White, only one other person has come within two feet of Jones’ mark in the past 50 years.

Jones joins Sam Love and Al Baker as the only Trigg County male track and field athletes to finish in the top three at the state meet three times in an event and the only one of the three to accomplish the feat in a field event.
