One of the top softball underclassmen in the state has committed to Rutgers University to continue her academic and athletic career.
Lyon County junior Calista Collins made the announcement on social media Thursday night. Collins earned First Team Class A All-State honors after hitting .566 as a sophomore. She belted 15 home runs and drove in 54 runs while playing shortstop for the Lady Lyons. Her 15 homers were second-most in the region, while her 1.160 slugging percentage ranked 10th in the state.
Rutgers finished 29-26 overall last year and lost to Purdue in the first round of the Big 10 Tournament. Their record was their best in four seasons under second-year head coach Kristen Butler, a former All-SEC player at Florida.
After many prayers and lots of consideration, I have made the decision to commit to Rutgers University to continue my softball and academic career. Thanks to my family and community for the unmatched support, which has made this amazing opportunity available. @RUSoftball pic.twitter.com/9JOXzrmrhC
