Just when it looked like the Lyon County Lady Lyons had the Ohio County Lady Eagles right where they wanted them, the Lady Eagles hit the Lady Lyons with a brutal one-two combination. Ohio County used a big run in the first half to take the lead, and a big run in the second half to put the game away on their way to a 64-33 win in Eddyville.
The afternoon started off pretty well for Lyon County. With Calista Collins controlling the paint, the Lady Lyons jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the start of the game. The lead would still be at five points when the quarter ended, with the Lady Lyons up 13-8. Collins had five points and four rebounds in the quarter to lead the Lyon County effort.
The Lady Lyons continued to have things going their way early in the second quarter, extending the lead to 18-12 in the opening moments. Then, the bottom fell out, and it fell out in a big way. Ohio County’s full court press began to take a toll on the Lady Lyons, and when they could get shots, they stopped falling.
Ohio County finished the first half on a 12-1 run to take a 24-19 lead at the half.
Lyon County looked like it was ready to fight its way back early in the 3rd quarter. A Cathryn Brown 3-pointer trimmed the lead to 28-24. Then, the Lady Eagles delivered the knockout blow.
Over the rest of the 3rd quarter and the beginning of the 4th quarter, Ohio County hit the Lady Lyons right between the eyes with a 17-0 run to go up 45-24 and effectively salt the game away. Turnovers continued to be a problem for the Lady Lyons as by the end of the game Ohio County pushed the margin out to 31 points.
Calista Collins led Lyon County with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Cathryn Brown and Rose Smith finished with five points each for the Lady Lyons. Smith had seven rebounds while Brown added five rebounds.
Ohio County was paced by Heaven Vanover with 12 points. Shelby Probus added 11 for the Lady Eagles.
