After thinking they were headed to Florida for the bowl season, the Kentucky Wildcats ending up being Carolina bound to face a team they have not met on the football field in more than 30 years. It was announced Sunday afternoon that the Wildcats will be headed to Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2019 Belk Bowl. The game will be played at 12:00pm on New Year’s Eve.

Earlier in the day Sunday, numerous reports had Kentucky headed to the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl to take on Indiana, but there were apparently some last minutes changes made to the bowl lineup by Southeastern Conference officials.

Kentucky will enter the game with a record of 7-5, while the Hokies come in at 8-4.

The last time the two schools met on the football field was all the way back on October 31, 1987, when the Wildcats picked up a 14-7 win.

All time in the series, UK leads 11-6-2. Virginia Tech’s last win was November 1, 1986 when they won 17-15 in Blacksburg.
