
After going 1-2 on a three-game stretch of away games, ending with a 71-36 loss to Clarksville Northwest on Tuesday night, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers will be looking forward to returning to Tiger Gym on Friday for a big 8th-District showdown with Christian County.
The first quarter got off to a low-scoring start in Clarksville, with the teams tied 5-5 midway through, but the Lady Vikings closed on a 7-0 run to lead 12-5 after one. Donisha Flowers had all but 1 of the Lady Tigers points over the first eight minutes.
Down 19-6 with five minutes left in the first half, Hoptown’s Jakayla Epps connected on a 3-pointer to trim the lead to 10, but the Lady Tigers only managed a single bucket the rest of the way and trailed 33-11 at halftime.
Hoptown started quickly out of the break, with Lakayla Samuel knocking down a 3-pointer, followed by a basket by Flowers and a steal and score by Samuel to get within 15 at 33-18. However, the Lady Vikings soon restored the 20-point advantage and led 51-29 after three quarters.
Northwest started the fourth on an 11-1 run capped by a 3-pointer by Zamarian Freeman to lead 62-30 and held the Lady Tigers to only 7 points over the final eight minutes to close out the victory.
Samuel and Flowers reached double figures for Hoptown with 14 and 12, respectively, followed by Jakayla Epps with 7.
For the Lady Vikings, An’ieya Briscoe led the way with 12 points, followed by Cameron Void and Emiyah Cobb with 10 each.
