For most of the first few days of the basketball season, it had been the UHA Blazers motif to fall behind early and then try to rally and pull off the win. Tuesday night, those tables were turned on the Blazers.

After leading by as many as 18 points, UHA saw the Union County Braves pull off the comeback and take an 80-72 win in overtime.

The game was tight early with the first quarter ending in a 13-13 tie. The Blazer defense then held Union County to single digits in the second quarter, as UHA took a 31-22 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Blazers looked like they were about to put the game away in the 3rd quarter. And, when the quarter came to an end, UHA led 52-39.

However, the Braves were not about to go quietly. With Kale Gaither heating up, Union County outscored the Blazers 24-11 in the final quarter of regulation. Eli Wilkes nailed a 3-pointer to send the game to overtime tied at 63-63.

The Braves then controlled the extra period, outscoring UHA 17-9 to pick up the victory.

D.J. Quarles led the way for UHA with 21 points. K.J. Crump finished with 16. Will Bryan added 15 points, while Amani McGee ended up with 12.

For Union County, Kale Gaither scored 29 points, with 27 of those coming in the second half. Kaleb Kanipe finished with 18, while Iverson King added 15.
