Wildcats Race to Early Lead to Win at Fort Campbell

Trigg County’s ability to play fast has pleased Coach Chad Burgett early in the basketball season.  Their ability to play slower still needs work.  The Wildcats saw a 24-point second half lead chiseled down to nine points in the fourth quarter before holding on for a 59-46 win on post Tuesday.

The Wildcats used their pressure defense in the first half to force 15 Fort Campbell turnovers and build a 30-17 halftime lead.

Trigg County built their lead to 47-23 toward the end of the third quarter and appeared to have the game in control.  In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats tried to slow the tempo and work the clock.  That’s when their troubles began.  Trigg made just 3-of-10 shots and turned the basketball over five times in the quarter as the Falcons trimmed the deficit to 53-44 with 2:01 left.

The Wildcats were able to make 5-of-7 shots from the free throw line to hold off the Falcon rally.

Kendric Adams led Trigg County with 15 points, while Jakobe Bridges added nine points.  Trigg shot 30-percent from the field and hit 21-of-34 free throws (61%).

Cameron Pratt led Fort Campbell with 16 points.  The Falcons hit 16-of-28 at the free throw line but shot just 29-percent from the field and committed 27 turnovers that led to 23 Wildcat points.

Fort Campbell (3-1) will visit Community Christian Thursday.

Trigg County (2-1) will play at Livingston Central Friday.
