Colonels Hand Simon Kenton First Loss of the Season

Christian County hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to hold off Simon Kenton 66-61 Saturday at the Mike Murphy Classic at Mason County.  The loss was Simon Kenton’s first in five games to start the season.

After the Pioneers trimmed the Colonel lead to two points, Christian County hit five free throws in the final 39 seconds to seal the win.

Simon Kenton led 12-11 after one quarter, Mikeon Mathis’ putback before the halftime buzzer gave the Colonels a 30-29 lead at intermission.

Christian County scored 14 of the third quarter’s final 20 points to take a 50-41 lead into the final frame.

Qua Chambers led the Colonels with 17 points and five assists as Christian County picked up their second win in less than 24 hours.  The Colonels beat Hopkinsville by ten points Friday night.

Christian County (3-3) will play at Third Region favorite Owensboro Tuesday.
