
The Owensboro Red Devils used a late game 6-0 run to take the lead, and then held on for a hard fought 59-56 win over the Christian County Colonels Tuesday night in Owensboro. Olajuwon White’s 3-pointer, which would have forced the game into overtime, was off the mark just ahead of the horn as the Red Devils picked up the victory. Owensboro’s Jaiden Greathouse came up with a big basket with 14 seconds to go, to force the Colonels to attempt the desperation three.
Owensboro got rolling early in the contest. The Red Devils would lead by as many as 14 points in the first quarter, before settling for a 22-16 lead when the quarter came to an end. Christian County battled back and would get even closer in the second quarter. The Colonels had trimmed the lead to 31-29 by the half.
The Colonel defense limited the Red Devils to just 11 points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the Colonel offense pushed the team to the front, with Christian County taking a 46-42 lead into the final quarter.
After seeing Christian County lead by as many as 10 points in the second half, it was the Red Devil’s turn to rally. With the Colonels leading 54-51 with 3:43 to go in the game, Owensboro went on a 6-0 run to take the lead back for good at 57-54. The Colonels would cut the lead to one at 57-56, but Greathouse’s basket would seal the win for Owensboro.
Christian County was led by Mikeon Mathis with 16 points. Kobe Dillard finished with 15 points, 11 of those coming in the first half of play. Qua Chambers had 8 points, while Stephen Bussell added 7 for the Colonels.
Jaiden Greathouse led the Red Devils with 23 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Kenyatta Carbon was the other Red Devil in double figures with 11.
Christian County falls to 3-4 on the season with the loss.
