There was almost a change at the top of this week’s girls’ Super 7. Almost, but not quite yet. Henderson still holds the top slot, however, the Lady Maroons, after their win over Webster County, have narrowed the gap. Webster County drops just a hair this week, but never count the Lady Trojans out of the picture. Is there a team that can disrupt the grip these three have at the top, only time and more action on the court will answer that question.
– Henderson County (5-2) – The Lady Colonels from the north have yet to lose to a Kentucky team this season. There is no chance of that happening until we flip the calendar page to 2020. Waiting for them there are January matchups against Marshall County and Madisonville.
– Madisonville (5-0) – The Lady Maroons climb to the #2 slot after taking down Webster County, and holding the Lady Trojans to just 39 points in the process. They struggled early against Hopkins Central, but then blew the Lady Storm’s doors off in the second half. Looking more and more like a regional contender. Depth could be the one big concern for the Lady Maroons going forward.
– Webster County (2-3) – The Lady Trojans have played a tough schedule to open the season, and it does not appear to get any easier over the holidays. If this team can get fully healthy by the end of the season, another regional title would not be a complete shocker.
– Christian County (2-4) – The southern Lady Colonels head up the cluster of teams outside of the “Big 3” that hope to be able to contend by the end of the season. Their defense is good enough, that if their shots start falling, and they can improve ball security, they will be a tough out for someone come tournament time.
– Caldwell County (3-3) – The Lady Tigers appear to have positioned themselves as the team to beat in the girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic. Overall, in the region, they play solid defense and can force a team to work to score. Turnovers against pressure defense are something they are going to have to improve on if they hope to make postseason noise.
– Trigg County (4-1) – The Lady Wildcats completed their first run through 5th District play with no team coming closer than 15 points. Coach Coble’s team will be at Russellville and then at Community Christian for the holidays. They could be on a run when we hit 2020.
– Union County (4-2) – The Bravettes are winning the games they are supposed to win early in the season. They should be a little more tested during holiday tournament play, which will give us all a better idea of just where this team stands.
