Clayton Setliff proves you don’t have to be a four-year starter in high school to get a college offer. In his case, you don’t even have to play all four years.
The Trigg County senior soccer player signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Georgetown College Thursday. Setliff didn’t play soccer as a freshman or sophomore. Instead, he focused on his physical fitness through the Crossfit program.
He didn’t play high school soccer until his junior season where he recorded two goals and three assists.
He continued his physical fitness training and finished second at the state powerlifting meet in the 165-pound class.
He had a breakout senior season on the soccer pitch in 2019 with seven goals and five assists and was named to the All-District Team. He scored Trigg’s lone goal in their region tournament loss to University Heights.
Setliff will be playing for the U19 Valor United FC Team in the winter and spring.
Setliff is the second Trigg County player in recent years to sign with Georgetown. Blaine Alexander, Trigg County’s all-time leading scorer, was a captain at Georgetown and graduated in 2017. Setliff’s coach Josh Nichols also played at Georgetown.
Georgetown College is an NAIA school that was 14-5 last year.
