The growing pains of Heritage Christian Academy’s young basketball team continued Thursday as they fell to Oak Ridge Christian 46-42 at Warrior Gym.
HCA played their region rival close, leading 10-8 after one quarter and trailing 35-33 after three quarters. HCA missed a chance to tie the game in the final minute. Oak Ridge hit a free throw to extend their lead to three with 20 seconds left. HCA couldn’t get off a tying shot due to a turnover, and Oak Ridge added another free throw to seal the win.
Turnovers again were the downfall of the Warriors, who committed 19 in the contest.
Elijah Britton led HCA with 14 points. Weston Powell scored 13 points, and Derek Wadlington added a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Heritage Christian (0-11, 0-5) will play in the Knights Christmas Classic this weekend at Lancaster Christian Academy in Smyrna, Tenn. The Warriors will play Clarksville Christian Friday.
